Destinations Covered : Sabi Sands game reserve, Private concession – Chitwa Chitwa private game reserve.
There are rare places, where beauty and vision come together and legends are born. Chitwa Chitwa Private Game Reserve is one such place. Our exquisite lodge is the jewel in the crown of the water-rich, wildlife wonderland of the Sabi Sand Reserve – an area unsurpassed in its bio-diversity.
In 1991, Charl Brink made the decision to transform this private family retreat into a lodge of distinction, an ambassador for conservation and a living, giving legacy for the generations to follow.
Chitwa Chitwa is situated at the northern end of Sabi Sand; an oasis etched into its natural surrounds, overlooking one of the largest perennial lakes in the Reserve. This is our game viewing pièce de résistance, as this body of water is a year-round popular watering hole for a parade of wildlife including elephant herds, buffalo, zebra, impala, water buck and giraffe, with resident hippo and crocodile thrown into this dynamic mix.
Our all-day Chitwa Deck-Safaris take place from the viewing platforms encapsulating the entire lodge, providing guests with up-close and personal front row seats to the unscripted daily drama of wild Africa that plays out around this constant water source. “Lights – Camera – Action!” This is your VIP invitation to a royal gala performance of life at the sharp end; nature at its most authentic.
These sens-surround viewing opportunities are over and above the morning and evening professionally guided game drives in open 4 x 4 vehicles. This is Big 5-rich country and the resident lion prides, leopards, elephant and buffalo herds, and rhino are carefully observed and monitored. Our rangers’ diaries bear testament to some thrilling encounters.
Mammal species in the Reserve number over 145, bird species over 500, tree species over 330, reptiles over 110, amphibians over 30 and fish over 45 – a veritable treasure trove.
The warm tones of the surrounding African bush find expression in our lodge’s interior. These hues percolate through the home-from-home comfortable, stylish interiors that effortlessly marry African chic with contemporary European design. Maria Brink has personally selected and positioned a visual feast of contemporary art pieces from her acclaimed collection, throughout the Lodge.
Panoramic views and captivating game sightings are the order of the day as the main living room and dining areas spill over onto the extensive wooden decks overlooking the lodge’s bush and lake surrounds. A reception, library, boutique, gym and spa complete this central area. Outdoors, a rim-flow pool beckons and the sunset lounging deck, shaded by old Knob thorn trees, invites.
Our Mediterranean and African cross-culture cuisine is a definitive of Chitwa Chitwa Lodge, complemented by a selection of imported and South African wines. We serve breakfasts and lunches in the view-rich thatched Lapa, with dinners either in the elegant dining room, or banquet-style in our open-air boma (enclosure). Honeymooners enjoy the intimacy of their own dining space, whilst those looking for something unique, may wish to experience a private dinner set in a dry riverbed under the vast African sky. Enjoy the very unique Chitwa pizza truck and various “bush” stops Chitwa Chitwa has to offer.
Our beautifully appointed, individually decorated, ultra-spacious accommodation options lend themselves to a range of tailored possibilities: from couples to families – yes, children of all ages are welcome; from honeymooners to private groups; from weddings to special occasions.
